Yoga classes can differ greatly depending on the
style of Yoga you
practice, the stage you are at and your actual purpose of doing Yoga.
These days, many people take up Yoga simply because it is fashionable
and at the same time helps keep fit and healthy. Performing Asanas (Yoga poses)
and Pranayama (breathing exercises) brings a number of benefits to Yoga
practitioners of all ages and backgrounds. Indeed, Yoga is a great way
to develop one’s body, purify the mind, get rid of diseases,
and
become strong and graceful.
In this case, Yoga classes mainly consist of practical training and are
viewed only as gymnastics. They begin with simple exercises and proceed
to more complicated ones. In ideal, Yoga classes should be planned in
such a way that the beginners do not feel stressed or experience pain,
but gradually build musculature and become flexible at their own pace,
investigating the new abilities of the body. Some props can be used
during first few yoga classes to facilitate the performance of
challenging exercises; it is much more important to do things correctly
and thoughtfully rather than progress quickly but with numerous
mistakes.
Yoga classes of fitness-oriented Hatha
Yoga or Bikram
Yoga
usually last for about one and a half hours and should not take place
more often than 2 or 3 times a week. It is not recommended to eat
straight before taking a Yoga class, as it may then appear difficult to
hold certain poses.
In case a person practices the Yoga in its philosophical sense, Yoga
classes may appear a bit different. Instead of exercising all the time
students are likely to be listening to the teacher and take notes,
learn to focus attention and meditate (anyway, preparation of body in
most cases precedes Yoga classes dedicated to the exploration of mind).
Yoga classes can be public or private. They both have some advantages
and disadvantages. But anyway, as Yoga is oriented at creating the
balance between body and mind, your primary attention should be
directed inwards and not outwards, at the setting. A wide range of
video and audio materials as well as related literature also makes it
possible to arrange Yoga classes at home. However, as you proceed with
more sophisticated practices such as Kundalini
awakening or retention of breath, the consultation of an experienced
instructor will be absolutely necessary to avoid injuries and other
side effects.
